Brushoed Birthday Card.

I have a fairly quick card to show you today. I wanted to get something made to enter Darnelle's NBUS challenge which she is hosting to celebrate her 800th follower, how amazing is that? NBUS is coined by Darnelle and stands for Never Before Used Schtuff, and I think that most of us have some of that in our stash, be it new or  stash bought some time ago and never got round to using. For my card today I have a new recently purchased Stampin Up set, Summer Silhouettes.
I also wanted to have another try with my Brusho
Paints because although I have used most of my
original pieces  I was not totally happy with them.
Although I sprinkled the crystals really thinly I still ended up with too much on the paper, which resulted in me dousing it with loads of water to tone it down. Having watched some on-line videos resently I decided that I really needed to pierce a hole in the lid which I had previously been reluctent to do. This is the result, much more what I was looking for. I used only black paint on this one and I love that it makes a blue background with lovely coloured flecks in it. I spritzed water colour paper with water before sprinkling the paint crystals and added a little more water afterwards as well. I let it get almost dry naturally and just finished it off with  a heat gun. I used Jet Black Archival ink and the new unused Stampin Up stamps. I trimmed it down and matted it onto some dark blue pearl card and then onto some salmon glitter card. I used a white prefolded 5"x7" base card in a landscape orientation with the fold at the top and fixed the mounted panel onto it. The trellis stamp at the side is from the same set and I stamped it with Chipped Sapphire DI. The greeting is stamped with a wood mounted Hobby Arts stamp onto an offcut of the Brusho background, and mounted to match the main image. I appologise for the poor angle of the photo, it looks decidedly wonky, but I promise you it is actually all straight.
I think I still have time to link this up at Darnelle's challenge, I believe it is open until tomorrow.
Thank you for visiting here today and for you                                                                                           comments, I really appreciate them all.

  1. Oh Jean, you know I love this one! Well done with the brusho background as it is super stunning with the images you've stamped over it. If you've not checked out those Eileen Godwin videos on Youtube, do so! She has a hexagon that she did with just black & yellow brusho crystals and it was stunning. Your lovely piece put me in mind of hers. Who knew that just the black (which I've not yet used) would yield such a colorful background. You did an exceptionally gorgeous background on this one! TFS & Hugs. (I have gone from using not enough water - to being too heavy handed. Need to work on my technique a bit more! But they are fascinating to use). Hugs & TFS

  3. The Brusho black has made such a pretty background for these lovely silhouette stamps Jean, and the trellis stamp on the side with the sentiment on top works so well as does the great coloured glitter and pearl card you have used to layer up. A beautiful card! x

  5. As you made it, I am quite sure it is all straight, unlike all the ones I make!! Well done on the brushos. I am still trying to get a more subtle tone from mine too. I like the new stamps. Kate x

  10. This is a gorgeous composition, Jean! Isn't that something that you got brilliant blue from using the black? If that happened to me, I'd think the hamster was playing tricks on me! I'm very sorry to be this late in coming by to comment and thank you for playing in my NBUS Challenge #4! Life and Easter company just got in the way for me this time. I really appreciate your support and friends!! Hugs, Darnell
