July Rudolph Day

Hello again, as it is the 25th today I'm  back with a card for the Rudolph Day Challenge at Scraps of Life with Scrappymo. The challenge starts today and is open until 31st of July if you fancy taking part. You just need to make something with a Christmas theme and there is a super MB die as a prize.
My card is made with a Crafty Indviduals NBUS stamp. I stamped onto white card with black Archival ink and coloured the images with Coloursoft pencils. I then masked each one in turn with post it notes and sponged in the backgrounds with various Distress Inks. I cut them apart with fancy edged scissors called stamp, which were bought many years ago when I did a craft shop class on postage art. I am not so sure this was a good idea now as I can see that I haven't lined them up very well. It looked OK 'till I saw it on the screen. The red mat is cut to the same size as the original stamp which has black dots between and around the images to simulate perforation. Next I cut a larger mat from green glitter card, and I used red line extra strong tape to stick the red mat to the glitter card because I have found in the past that ordinary double sided doesn't always stay stuck and I don't want to find them falling apart when I come to write them at Christmas time. The base card is a folded white A6  size and having fixed the main panel in place I stamped the holly with Olympia Green Versafine ink and coloured the berries with a Barn Door Distress Marker, and the sentiment with Barn Door DI. The holly stamp is from a Paper Artsy set and the sentiment is Chocolate Baroque.

Thank you all for visiting here today and for your comments, all of them are really appreciated.
Jean

  1. Jean, this was a lot of very fussy craft work on this pretty card. Your images look just great & it was a good idea to cut them with the deckle scissors. It looked "handmade" - not manufactured. Masking and sponging each of these tiny images was a labor of love, and also placing them in the design you did, was also. So pretty with the red mat against the glitter green. And I love the tiny holly flourish in the corner. Lots of work in this one, and it certainly shows off your skills! TFS & have a great wkend

  2. Great design. When I first saw your card, I thought you'd used readymade 'postage stamps' toppers, then I read that you'd not only cut them yourself, but also coloured them. Brilliant card! xx

  3. This is so pretty Jean and a lot of work colouring each picture and then cutting apart with the fancy scissors. I love the way it is layered on red and then green which is just right for this traditional stamp and the holly is a wonderful embellishment and love that sentiment, also I think your lining up is absolutely ok! I have trouble with glue. I nearly always use the collall photo glue because if any gets on the card it rubs away, but I don't know how many times I hold a card in good light and it looks perfect, but then once photographed and up on the blog I can see stray bits of glue which are still sitting on it, so irritating ..lol. x

  4. Hi Jean,
    what a very super card.
I too thought these were bought stamped images till I read how you had created them.
Superb bit of stamping and colouring.
I would never have noticed the slight out of line stamp had you not said.
Isn't so funny how you look at things and think that is straight or something like that, and then when you get the picture on the blog you find it's not, and it's so frustrating.
I have heard so many people say this also.
Anyway super Rudolf card, and I love it.
Lots of crafty love. Jenny L.

  6. Wonderful Christmas card Jean. I think it looks like a hanging handmade quilt. That would not hang as straight as a manufactured quilt. It would look just like your sweet card...handmade and beautiful!

I find the same as you regarding the glitter card. I use the Sook Wang tape as it is so sticky and strong. No room for error though...once stuck it is down forever or will tear the card!

Thanks for taking part in the July Rudolph Days Challenge.l

  8. Brilliant card and love the images and the postage stamp cutting looks fine, I have learned that what you see on the screen is not always a true image of the real thing, it's either the camera or blogger, if you ask me. Like the way you have left the blank space at the bottom so the sentiment and holly image stands out.

  9. I love the postage stamp look on this, and you've added just enough glittery green to enhance those stamps perfectly! Great sentiment with stamped holly sprig too! Nice job!

  10. I wouldn't have noticed that the images weren't straight if you hadn't drawn our attention to it - I think we are all our own harshest critics! Your card is beautiful and the postage stamp idea is fab

  14. That sounds like a lot of work Jean. I like the end result. I don´t recognise the stamp though I know most of the CI ones, and lots of the images are familiar. I like the ´stamp´scissors too, and they looked pretty well lined up to me. Kate x

  15. Fabulous card Jean. I love this stamp. I didn't notice they weren't quite lined up til you pointed it out. I would not worry about it....adds to the quirkiness.
