A Little Update and My First Card This Year

Hi all, it's been a while since my last post, I have been having a rather lazy couple of weeks over the holiday period. My craft stash has to be tidied away and the half of our dining table which serves permanently as my work desk has to be cleared in order to be able to use it for it's original purpose, and now the festivities are over I have been finding hard to get motivated again. However I
have made a card this week which I can enter in a few challenges,
but first I must just show what I found in my e-mail in box this
morning. This is my youngest great granddaughter Kaycie wearing the little dress that I made her for christmas. She is just 7 months old and has just started sitting up unsupported and has two lovely front teeth. I was so pleased that the dress fitted her as I wasn't too sure while I was knitting it.

Darnell of dkjkardkreations is hosting her third NBUS (never before used schtuff) challenge to celebrate her milestone follower total. 700 I think, wow!!!, and she has some very generous prizes up for grabs too. When I visited the Hobby Crafts show at the NEC back in November I bought four background stamps at the WOW stand along with some embossing powders, but with the bustle of christmas preparations I never got round to playing with them, so I thought this was a perfect opportunity to do just that.
For my card I used this pretty floral background stamp and stamped it onto an A6 tent fold card with Versafine ink and then
added colour with Pan Pastels. I started quite gently until all the ink was covered and then just continued adding more till I was happy with the result. When done I used a chalk eraser to tidy up the edges of the card and then gave it a quick spritz with hairspray to make sure the colour stayed put. The butterfly is cut from a snippet of yellow pearl card with a Memory Box die. I cut the matching solid butterfly from sparkly film which I also bought at the NEC and used here for the fist time too. I adhered the two butterflies together and glued just the body to fix it to the card and then added the gems. I dabbed a little Star Dust Stickles to the centres of the flowers and stamped Thank You with Memento Elderberry ink.
So I am entering this at Darnells NBUS challenge (the stamp and sparkle film )
Mrs. A's Butterfly Challenge - Use a Butterfly and Thank You
Pixies Snippets Playground - Use Snippets ( the yellow die cut butterfly )
Thank you for visiting here and for your comments which are really appreciated.
Jean

  12. Oh, Jean, normally a card wouldn't stand a chance for me on a post that included such an impossibly smoochable baby, but your's certainly did! I love the beautiful background and the overlay and the butterfly and the colors ... it's all magnificent! You certainly came back with a bang!! And I'm thrilled for you that your sweet knitted dress fits little Kaycie like a glove! Thank you so much for playing in my NBUS Challenge #3!! Hugs, Darnell

  16. Jean, tfs the cute picture of your little sweetie wearing that pretty dress you made for her. It's darling and you can just see she is so proud of it! I bet you were thrilled to get this picture. Loved your pan pastel card too (and tnx for reminding me to think about using those...I get caught up in the newest things I buy, then forget the older stuff. Right now it's the Brusho-s!). The delicacy of the gold embossing on the flowers really shown out against the soft color palette you used with the chalks. The butterfly was stunning with that sparkling film you used on the wings. That's a new product to me...but it made a marvelous shimmer. TFS
