Belated Rudolph Day

Last Saturday saw the first Rudolph Day challenge of 2014 over at Sarn's Stamping For Pleasure blog, but I didn't realise the 25th had come around so quick and missed it. However Sarn keeps the challenge open until the end of the month and she wants us to make at least two cards to enter this year, I am popping over with two more of my recycled cards.

For the first one I first cut out the part of the image I wanted to use with a Go Kreate oval die and then using some white card with silver sparkles in it I used a Dienamic fancy edged die to cut a frame for it. I folded some dark blue card to make a 5.5" square base card and stamped the Chocolate Baroque holly flourish on it with Versamark ink and embossed it with WOW silver powder.I stuck the oval image on with foam tape and added the sentiment, also from Chocolate Baroque, stamped onto a snippet of the white and silver card.
For the second one I used Nestabilities plain and scalloped dies to cut the image and mat. I covered the front of a dark green square card with some background paper, Papermania I think, after inking the edge with vintage photo Distress Ink .The greeting was cut with a Britania die. Both the mat and greeting were cut from snippets of gold glitter card so I am going to enter these at the Pixies Playground as well.

Thank you for taking a look and for all your comments which are much appreciated.

  1. I think both of these are lovely examples of upcycling Jean, but I particularly like the first one because I adore the CB Holly Flourish on that lovely blue background, and I love the Dynamics fancy oval frame. Mind you I do have a soft spot for Robins, and this one is beautifully enhanced by that gold scalloped frame. x

  2. Your cards are both lovely with those beautiful images! I love the embossing on the first card, and the 2nd one looks so pretty with those sparkly orange accents that pick up the bird's color so nicely!

  3. I saw this as thumbnail in my Bloglovin list and thought it was my card again, but of course I soon realised it wasn't! I bet you got the original from Brenda? Two more lovely cards Jean. I like them both. I had some lovely robin cards this year, and I do love them, but mostly the images were huge, and much too big to recycle. Your one is lovely. It looks like a real photo. Kate x

  6. Two beauties! I love that silver embossing on the dark blue! So elegant for Mary and baby Jesus. And that robin sits on the perfect paper!

  7. Jean, these are both just marvelously lovely. I always like religious themed cards, and pretty ones are hard to find. You used that CB flourish perfectly to enhance the beautiful Madonna & loved that it was an oval shape. Loved the sweet robin too, and your gold mat really sparkled him so fine. I love that Britannia die. Think I have the Merry Christmas one, but this one is so pretty as a sentiment on this card. TFS & Hugs. Yes, the chili was good! I didn't burn anything :-)
