Cards and other handicrafts made by Jean Straw

Birthday Greetings

I need several cards for the men in my family during this and next month and I never find them too easy to do. However Chocolate Baroque have recently brought out a range of clear stamps to run alongside their excellent rubber ones, and when I saw this beautiful crane in the Oriental Crane set, I thought it would be ideal for some of them.
I first stamped the crane onto white card with Tuxedo Black memento ink and coloured it with colour soft pencils. I trimmed it down and used broken China distress ink to shade around the edges. I mounted it onto blue and then grey card and fixed it to a square white card blank. The grasses are from CB eastern grasses set and I stamped it once with memento London Fog and once with Versafine Olympian Green.
the greeting is stamped with the London Fog also.

I am entering this at The Stamp Man, Birds, Butterflies and Bees.

  3. Those Eastern Grasses are perfect for the Crane & I love your edging of the Crane panel & how it really gives a sense of blue lagoon.
Terrific for the men & I'd imagine you could make a number of them with very different looks by varying just a few details on each.

  7. This is gorgeous Jean. I love the oriental style images, and you've used them in such a beautiful way. I've recently been having a mooch in CB and seen some lovely stamps which are now on my wish list - lace fragments being right at the top :-)!

    Take care

  8. A really beautiful card, Jean! Don't the Eastern Grasses go well with the crane? Lovely soft colours too. I bought the crane set recently but haven't used it yet. You've inspired me to get inking it up!

  9. Hi Jean. Back safe and sound to be greeted by not one or two, but all five boys! Watch out for my nest blog. I wonder which of our lucky menfolk are going to get this lovely card. My second set of oriental stamps was waiting for me here, so I am looking forward to getting inky when things get back to normal, I hope I can create something as tranquil and subtle as this! Kate x
